Kefalonia Wine Hub 2025 – Water Shortage
The 4th Kefalonia Wine Hub, organized by the Association of Winemakers of Kefalonia, took place once again this year with great success on Saturday, June 14th, in Lixouri. The theme of the conference was “Water Shortage – Water Management and Techniques in the Vineyard,” curated by Antheia Kotsi. Guests from both abroad and Greece spoke about irrigation methods and viticultural techniques. Notably, the speakers included Mauro Sirvent, Director of Viticulture, and Martí Roig, oenologist, both from Família Torres — one of the largest wineries in the world — as well as winemaker Itay Lahat, agronomist Stergios Giannos, and Mr. Argyrios Gerakis, Academic Fellow of the Department of Food Science and Technology at the Ionian University, who opened the event. Prominent winemakers, professors, and agronomists from Greece, Spain, and Cyprus also shared their insights in a video by Antheia Kotsi on the issue of water shortage. Water shortage is a global concern for viticulturists and winemakers, and the Kefalonia Winemakers Association is bringing the issue to the forefront through these scientific presentations. Viticulturists, winemakers, and local stakeholders attended and participated in the event. The event was co-organized by the Region of the Ionian Islands and the Municipality of Argostoli, with the support of the Municipality of Lixouri and the Kefalonia and Ithaca Chamber of Commerce.
